Interessant ist der Kauf sicher, denn Jot gilt als ein absoluter Spezialist auf dem Gebiet des kollaborativen Wissensmanagements mit Wikis. Google könnte demnach die eigne Servicepalette um einen netten Dienst erweitern.

Der Suchmaschinenbetreiber Google will die Sonne im Silicon Valley nicht nur für ausgedehnte Beachvolleyball-Matches auf dem Firmengelände nutzen, sondern bald auch zur Stromversorgung der sechs Gebäude in Mountain View. Dafür wird das Unternehmen Solarpanele auf Dächern und Tragegerüsten installieren, die mit 1,6 Megawatt bis zu 30 Prozent des Energiebedarfs auf dem Campus decken sollen.

Das Solarprojekt, nach Googles Angaben das größte eines Unternehmens in den USA, soll schon ab 2007 so viel Strom liefern, wie für 1000 kalifornische Haushalte benötigt wird. Die Solarenergie-Spezialisten EI Solutions werden Google dabei helfen, die Umweltbilanz des Unternehmens aufzubessern und Stromkosten zu sparen. Das von Google nicht näher bezifferte Investment soll sich schon nach fünf bis zehn Jahren amortisieren. Der Suchmaschinenbetreiber gehört mit seiner stromhungrigen technischen Infrastruktur zu den großen Energieverbrauchern des Landes.

Ich finde es absolut cool, dass Google da mit einem guten Beispiel vorangeht und alternative Energien fördert. Und einen Eigennutz hat das ganze auch, denn wenn sich die Anlage schon nach ein paar Jahren armortisiert hat, dann werden auch andere Firmen auf den Zug aufspringen.

Einen anderen positiven Effekt dürfte das noch direkt haben, denn Google ermuntert seine Mitarbeiter ja immer, umweltbewusst zu leben. Ich denke, dass da einige der Mitarbeiter auch ihr Haus mit Solarzellen aufrüsten werden. Für Mitarbeiter, die sich ein Hybridauto kaufen, gibt es ja jetzt schon eine ordentlichen Zuschuss (glaub $5k hab ich mal gelesen), sodass dies hoffentlich viele Nachahmer findet.

Auf Techcrunch wurde gerade bestätigt, dass Google Youtube gekauft hat. Der Kaufpreis soll bei lächerlichen 1650000000 Dollar liegen. Man gönnt sich ja sonst nichts. Jedenfalls könnte damit Google-Videos etwas besser werden. Oder auch nicht:

Und die c’t macht sich bei mir gerade nicht wirklich beliebt. Immerhin hat man vergessen, Sevenload bei “Web-Videos: Youtube & Co” als eine der bekanntesten und innovativsten Videoplattformen in Deutschland zu nennen. Ob da einfach nur nachlässig recherchiert wurde oder ob das Ganze womöglich noch politische Hintergründe hat, mag ich an dieser Stelle gar nicht erst mutmaßen:

Video-Communities präsentieren der Netzgemeinde einen riesigen Fundus an Selbstgedrehtem: Banales, Peinliches, aber auch manch witzigen und interessanten Clip. Besonders bequem geht das mit Gratis-Diensten wie Youtube oder Google Video. Mit den richtigen Tools lassen sich Videos aber auch im Handumdrehen auf der eigenen Webseite platzieren.
